Receiving God's Blessing
“Remember whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly.” (9:6)
If you want God to bless you, you must bless others. If you are stingy with your time, talent or treasure you hinder God’s blessing into your life by the same measure. (Matt.7:2)
“Each man should give what he has decided to give in his own heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion.” (9:7)
It is not the heart of God to guilt or manipulate anyone into give to His work.
“God loves a cheerful giver.” (9:7)
A cheerful giver has learned to trust God as provider, removing the limitations of their own provision, allowing God to expand their resources. As long as we think we can only do as our money allows, our trust is in ourselves and not God. Then when we do give, it will be reluctantly because it feels like money lost not blessing gained.
Let God show you what to give. “He supplies seed to the sower.” (9:10)
Learn to give as God directs not as your paycheck does.
God will increase what we have saved or stored. “He will increase your store of seed.” (9:10)
If you spend everything you have, you leave nothing for God to bring increase to. Learn to save!
“God enlarges our harvest of righteousness.” (9:10)
It takes more than just giving to receive God’s blessing. We must surrender our lives to God and live righteously. Then He increases what our righteousness produces. For example, if we cheat Uncle Sam and lie to our employer, we will not have a harvest of righteousness for God to increase, but one of unrighteousness that can bring curses upon us.
Giving
“You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.” I Corinthians 9:11
In this passage, Paul is exhorting the Corinthian church to be cheerful givers, for in so doing, the Lord will make you rich. God’s desire is to bless His children. However, we control to what extent God’s blessing can flow into our lives. Learn several principles for receiving God’s blessing from 1 Corinthians 9 below.
